Tivoli Storage Manager Consultant

IBM Certified Deployment Professional - Tivoli Storage Manager V6.2
Certified IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Ver 5.5

Security Clearance:  SECRET (Interim Grant in Dec 2010)

Summary:

Over 20 years experience. Senior TSM Engineer / Administrator with a strong background in Tivoli Storage Manager (13 years), exposure migrating TSM
6.1 Client, Disaster Recovery Testing, ATL, 3584, TSM Remediation, TSM client upgrades, TSM server upgrades and libraries.  Experiences include:

•        For IBM/Northrop Grumman, has successfully deployed TSM Server 6.2 running on Red hat 5.3 and installed Tivoli Data protection for exchange,
client software for Linux/Solaris/Windows.
•        For IBM Global Services, upgraded seven existing TSM servers and their libraries to enable encryption of data.  Built out of 17 TSM servers in 14
Countries to replace existing backup infrastructure (ARCSERVE).   Part of this project is to migrate all existing data from unencrypted formats to an
encrypted format.  Migrated the data from an unencrypted format to an encrypted format (Over 2000 Tapes – 3 PB).   Clean up of administrative processes
to ensure standards were being applied to the twenty-two TSM Servers and extraneous files were removed from the TSM Servers.  Migrate existing
unencrypted data not included in the above projects to an encrypted format (4000 tapes – 5 PB).
•        For a healthcare provider, provided daily support of the 12 TSM servers which had VTL and physical libraries.  This was to augment their staff due to
manpower shortfalls (vacations/leave of absent/training)
•        For IBM Global Services, supported 7 TSM Servers (4 solutions) with about 1.5 PB of storage residing in 4 libraries, including over 3000 Clients for
nearly every operating system and application.   Three of these accounts were in a troubled status.   In two of the cases, the DR process was not fulfilling
the customers’ requirement for recovery.  Improved the process to exceed the customers’ requirement and ensured all consistencies were in place.
The other troubled account was near capacity of the library.   There were numerous clients not configured appropriately, old data not being removed, old
tape drives (LTO2) and outdated firmware and software. Within a four month timeframe, I successfully implemented new LTO4 technology, which
encompassed a migration of 2600 plus LTO2 tapes to the new format.  All servers’ administrative processes are completing in a timely manner.
•        Completed an upgrade of the TSM server and client code, upgraded library and drives firmware to a stable production level, and had library
management software configured and enabled (Specialist).
•        For State Street Global Advisors,  deployed TSM as the enterprise backup solution (2 TSM.servers).   As the environment grew,  became the
Administrator & Engineer of nine (9) TSM Servers (which run on AIX and Solaris) and backups/restore over 1500 clients (98% successful) running
Windows, UNIX, AIX, HP (TRU 64), LINUX and Databases (SQL, Oracle, and Sybase).  Ensured that the library (Previously was an ATL P3000 (16 DLTs drives)
then migrated to an STK L700 (4 DLT & 8 - 9940 drives) then migrated to an STK 8500 (16 - 9940 & 4 - T10, 000 drives) managed by (ACSLS via EDT) was
properly configured and running.  Performed daily Disaster Recovery (DR) procedures to ensure readiness & availability.

Collabera,  Contractor to IBM Global Services                                                 Jan 2010 – 10/10
TSM AIX ADMIN

I was hired to assist with multiple projects which go hand and hand.

TSM GOING GLOBAL - This project included upgrading seven existing TSM servers and their libraries to enable encryption of data.   Additionally,   we are
building out of 17 TSM servers in 14 Countries to replace existing backup infrastructure (ARCSERVE).   Part of this project is to migrate all existing data
from unencrypted formats to an encrypted format.

EVAULTING – My part in this project was to migrate the data from an unencrypted format to an encrypted format (Over 2000 Tapes – 3 PB).   The process
was to back up the data from the existing production site to another.   We moved the old data - while ensuring that this would not cause any major
impacts to backup/archive and Restore/retrieval operations.

ENCRYPTION AND CLEANUP – Clean up of administrative processes to ensure standards were being applied to the twenty-two TSM Servers and
extraneous files were removed from the TSM Servers.  Migrate existing unencrypted data not included in the above projects to an encrypted format
(4000 tapes – 5 PB).

TSM EMGINEER – Multiple Companies – Contractor/Consultant –                           2009 – Nov 2009.

Major Department Store -   Break up of the primary TSM server which was hosting the TEST/PRODUCTION/ARCHIVES into 4 distinct TSM servers (Library
manager / PROD / TEST / ARCHIVES).   This was completed two weeks ahead of schedule.    I used the remaining time to training the support staff on TSM
scheduling/problem determination/SQL scripting.

Major Healthcare provider – provided daily support of the 12 TSM servers which had VTL and physical libraries.  This was to augment their staff due to
manpower shortfalls (vacations/leave of absent/training)

Contractor to IBM Global Services                                                          Dec 2007 to Jul 2009
SERVER PRIMARY – TSM ADMIN

I started by supporting 7 TSM Servers (4 solutions) with about 1.5 PB of storage residing in 4 libraries, including over 3000 Clients for nearly every
operating system and application.   Three of these accounts were in a troubled status.   In two of the cases, the DR process was not fulfilling the
customers’ requirement for recovery.

I improved the process to exceed the customers’ requirement and ensured all consistencies were in place.   The other troubled account was near
capacity of the library.   There were numerous clients not configured appropriately, old data not being removed, old tape drives (LTO2) and outdated
firmware and software. Within a four month timeframe, I successfully implemented new LTO4 technology, which encompassed a migration of 2600 plus
LTO2 tapes to the new format.  All servers’ administive processes are completing in a timely manner.

Along with all of the solutions, I completed an upgrade of the TSM server and client code, upgraded library and drives firmware to a stable production
level, and had library management software configured and enabled (Specialist).

Oct 2008, we restructured, I was asked to support the 2nd shift as the senior person on shift. With this move, I now support 4 new accounts.   Two of
these accounts are in troubled status.    Clients were not completing in a timely manner, TSM servers did not have enough disk storage, and, both
libraries were near capacity and running old technology with down level code.    Similar to what I previously accomplish, I implemented and migrated 1600
LTO2 to LTO4 technology, and added additional resources to accommodate the clients processing.   All of the accounts are now in normal steady state.   I
train the Help Desk analysts (2nd shift) on trouble shooting methods and tactics which prevents client wait time or page out for operation issues.  I have
been recognized numerous times for outstanding professionalism, and going beyond the call of duty.   I am always looking for improvements, risk
prevention and cost saving/avoidance

Ensured that the library (Previously was an ATL P3000 (16 DLTs drives) then migrated to an STK L700 (4 DLT & 8 - 9940 drives) then migrated to an STK
8500 (16 - 9940 & 4 - T10, 000 drives) managed by (ACSLS via EDT) was properly configured and running.  Troubleshot all problems associated with the
